Lead Writer, VOIP
The opportunity
As Lead Writer, VoIP you will strategize and create authoritative, high-quality content that speaks directly to businesses about the Voice over Internet Protocol technology topics and solutions that can help drive their operations forward. You will have at least 3-5 years of technology experience, preferably within a small business setting. You will be able to ideate and write on a wide array of technology topics. You will also serve as a key strategic player on the Office Technology topic team, contributing to content production and planning, and ensuring articles display strong subject matter expertise to provide the best answers to readers’ questions. This is an independent leader role that works closely with other teams to fuel content success. This position sits within our Fit Small Business website to provide editorial and strategic support for the Office Technology team but will also help other Technology Advice websites as a VoIP subject matter expert.

What you'll do
- Write publishable, high-quality first drafts of 1 to 3 articles each week, which can include brand new articles and/or updates on existing articles, making sure to respond to and incorporate feedback in a timely manner
- Demonstrate expertise in VoIP, office technology, and related topics, and how they apply to modern businesses to help solve their technology challenges
- Write and review articles that speak to a variety of audiences, including digestible pieces that explain concepts to non-expert readers as well as more technical content that speaks to seasoned industry professionals
- Serve as a strategic lead for VoIP and office technology topics, helping to ideate and plan content calendars that build out the breadth, depth, and quality of our articles
- Create or review article synopses, craft outlines, and edit content from other editorial team members to guide the writing process and provide subject matter expertise
- Stay on top of and report on content performance, and use those insights to make changes to strategy that will increase metrics and best serve our audience
- Work within the 3-leg framework (Editorial, SEO, and Business Development) as well as other departments such as Social Media, Video, and Email Marketing to connect the work of those teams to the content strategy
- Collaborate frequently with the FSB Associate Director of Content and other site leaders to identify areas for topic and/or cluster growth, allocate resources effectively, and ensure content strategy meets business objectives
Who you are
- Subject matter expertise in one or more technology topics, preferably Voice over Internet Protocol, and knowledge of the software platforms and providers that exist in the space
- You stay abreast of news, updates, and trends within your field of expertise and learn to understand how they impact business
- Possess 3+ years of experience working in some aspect of office technology
- 1+ year of research-focused content writing experience and can demonstrate your writing proficiency through a portfolio and/or writing skills assessment
- Adept at contributing to strategic conversations and decision-making processes in a collaborative environment, working to implement changes and adjustments as needed
- Passionate about delivering the best answers to people’s questions
- Exhibit a basic understanding of SEO and content performance metrics
- Work well individually through self-motivation and accountability but can also be a collaborative team player
- Effectively manage your time to meet or exceed deadlines
- Open to feedback and are a perpetual learner
